In 2007 I went to Tasmania and finally saw Cradle Mountain. It was a place I have always wanted to see since hearing how beautiful it was from my grandmother.

I was not disappointed, and although the weather was not being kind, I still loved it.

Cradle Mountain is a majestic place with the Mountains surrounding an open water lake. I could really see why they named it Cradle Mountain.

The walks around vary from day tracks to a few hours. The one I went on took approx 3 hours to walk and this took us all the way around the waters edge.

The Mountain, known as Cradle Mountain peaks higher than the rest and has a gorgeous waterfall running from it. All around is a variety of native Flowers and rainforest trees.

Before you go on any walk you should sign the visitors book. You should write when you started your walk and then sign again when you return. This is a safety options for if something were to happen to you on your walk.

There are plenty of accommodation options ranging from the exclusive properties like Cradle Mountain lodge, to cheaper alternatives like Hotels.

I do suggest everyone who goes to Tasmania, to definitely take the drive out to Cradle Mountain.

The Spirit Of Tassie

About a year ago I departed Melbourne on an 8 hour voyage to Tasmania.

This was definitely a trip I will never forget. After coming from Falls Festival the day before – we were extremely seedy ….. it all kind of seems dreamy.

On departure from Melbourne they ask you to arrive 45 mins early. We on the other hand slept in, then got lost, then asked for directions and got lost again. We finally made it to the port and whizzed in just in time. “THANK GOD” when boarding I realised just how huge this vessel was with levels on levels.

We left on the Day Trip so we only purchased a seat ticket. This means you can sit anywhere on the ship, obvious not the private cabins. This was fine for the day, however on our way back, we were on the night trip and I strongly suggest a sleeper cabin. We got hardly any sleep as we were constantly getting woken up by people moving around, snoring and farting (I know, GROSS, especially when they are strangers and laying on the couch right next to you. ‘shutter’ ). The couches weren’t very comfortable to sleep on, especially when you rolling side to side with the swell. And the lights were only dimed, so it was pretty light all night.

The Spirit had a Shop, Lobby, Eatery, Live Band Area, Bars on every level, Games room, and the most astonishing – A pokies room. (AHHH yes, for all those gambling addicts out there that can not go 8 hours with out having a press, do not fear, this Vessel has loads of machine waiting to take all your money from you.)

I must say, the trip was kinda fun, even with the worst hangovers ever recorded, we made it all the way over and back with out throwing up.
