We take pictures to be able to relive that single moment of utmost beauty, to remember the vows made on our wedding day, or maybe just on a whim to press the shutter button. For whatever reason, photographs will always be synonymous with memories. Be it Professional photography, or a mere hobby, you have to learn the basics.

You have to take careful consideration of the lighting, the kind of camera used, and of course the subject you intend to shoot. Photography is not as simple as it looks. You do not just take the shot, you think and plan on what you want your picture to show. Photography enthusiasts know there is such a thing as good composition.

Photography composition is the design and the message you want to convey when someone takes a look at your photo. It is the yin and yang of photography. When you take a trip to “down under”, you will be amazed at the endless subjects you will see in the great outback, the scenic beaches, and even in the midst of their central business district located in downtown Sydney.

The beauty of nature may be artistically shown through landscape photography. The sandy strands at Settlers Beach in Western Australia can go from looking like a ripple of water to an abstract painting, with the proper techniques.

You may opt to take pictures of Australia’s floral emblem, the Golden Wattle. It is such a beautiful tree to look at, yet to capture what you want from it, you have to learn that flowers easily move in different directions because of the wind.

Panning is a technique photographers use when they blur the edges or the background and make their subject stand-out. There is this majestic view in Uluru called Ayers Rock. It has slopes, which are uneven and steep, making it a postcard-perfect subject for photographers.

Deer and kangaroos are often the wildlife models thought to represent Australia. You should not pass the chance of taking their picture when you seem them. However, you need an excellent camera, one with high tech specifications. Your equipment should include a long lens of about 300mm, or the more expensive and extra long lenses of up to 600mm. These are essential for you to take photos of wildlife from afar. Animals in their natural habitat provide unexpected shots of great value, if you are well-equipped with the right gadget.

Bondi Beach and Surfer’s Paradise are also breathtaking views you may want to visit, while you are in the country. More than 3 million tourists flock to Surfer’s Paradise on this part of the Gold Coast of Queensland. Entertainment and great night life presents the opportunity to offer a series of continuous shots, and you will also meet a few budding Gold Coast and Brisbane Photographers.

The Eyre Peninsula in South Australia also offers dramatic, picturesque shots of the ocean and cliffs. You can spend time at the Whyalla Conservation Park, taking pictures of birds, kangaroos and other wildlife. It boasts of abundant variety of wildlife, in fact you can see Grey and Red Kangaroos in this part of Australia. There are a lot more places to visit, so do not forget your camera!

Surfer’s Paradise is full with fun activities for the whole family. Perhaps the best thing about this area is its ability to please absolutely everyone.

Given its name, surfing is, of course the order of the day here in Surfers Paradise. You can take lessons, head out on your own, or join a group lesson for abit of fun. Consider going fishing, or on a dinner cruise.

If golf is you interest, consider heading off to a golf course to play a few holes – there are 40 to choose from in this outdoor paradise.

There are more than 70 km of beaches, so there’s plenty of space to just hang on the beach without being crowded. From the beach, check out the activities on the water, and plan your evening or next day of activity.

If you have kids with you go out an have fun at Sea World or Dreamworld. Who knows? The kids might even enjoy a visit to the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum.

The Wax Museum is also a popular draw, though there’s are a few sections of the museum that is abit graphic – perhaps a better option for teenagers and adults. The celebrity section is always a winner.

At the end of the day, when you’ve had enough with sightseeing and outdoor activities, there’s always the Gold Coast nightlife.

A recent comment from a client who stayed in the heart of Surfers Paradise:

Arrived home yesterday after a very enjoyable Queensland holiday.

Must thank you for your help with our Surfers arrangements. Hadn`t been there for several years and I must say that things are really happening up there.

First and foremost, we were very happy with our accommodation at Paradise Centre. We were in apartment 2601. Apart from having great views, we also looked right down on the construction site corner of Cavill and the Esplanade where they are building a 77 level apartment tower which goes by the rather strange name of “Soul”. Still at the earthworks stage and there was a bit of noise, but being 26 floors up it really didn`t bother us. In fact we found it quite interesting watching the construction in progress while having a cold beer on our balcony after a tough day on the beach.

One street to the west of Soul, and fronting Surfers Paradise Boulevard, Hilton Hotels are building a new tower which is also going to be very large.

Then you can add the old Iluka, about to be demolished also on the Esplanade just south of Paradise Centre plus the recently completed towers of Circle on Cavill and Chevron Renaissance, so give it 18 months and there sure won`t be any shortage of up-market accommodation in central Surfers.

Apart from Surfers, we did have a lovely stay in Port Douglas – our 10th holiday up there – and we have always stayed at Beaches. However, as a matter of interest, we had a look at Coconut Grove which is a new apartment block at the esplanade end of Macrossan Street. It really is very nice and I think we will give it a go for our next hols in “The Port”.

We have no financial interest in Coconut Grove.

I just thought it might be one for you to paste in your book because it is a very stylish and well located facility.

Thank you again for your help.

At the end of October I attended what has now been confirmed as the last Indy Car race on the Gold Coast. This race has become an icon of motor sport in Australia and it is sad to see it go. It will be replaced by the A1 Supercar series as well as V8 supercars on the street circuit through Surfers Paradise, which will still be held in October. This move has the potential to attract more international interest as the A1 GP cars are raced in more countrys and each team actually represents a country. The drivers compete in identicle vehicles based on the Ferrari Formula one chassis. As a result of this deal Queensland will have a permanent place on the A1 circuit.
